2024 Winter School in Leipzig
We’re thrilled to present insights from the 2024 Winter School held in Leipzig from March 11th to March 15th. Hosted under the theme “Advanced Spectroscopy – Applications in Chemistry,” this year’s event was a resounding success, bringing together Master 1 and Master 2 ASC students.
Throughout the week, attendees were treated to a rich array of experiences designed to deepen their understanding of advanced spectroscopy and its real-world applications in chemistry.
Key Events:
· Lectures: Experts in the field delivered insightful lectures, enriching our students’ knowledge base. We extend our gratitude to speakers including Thomas Sheppard, Kerstin Gackle, Robert Schneider, Pedro Camargo, Giuliana Aquilanti, Filippo Tamassia, Christian Papp, Cornelius Fischer, and Jonas Warneke for their invaluable contributions.
Special recognition goes to Tomasz Wrobel, beamline responsible at the SOLARIS synchrotron in Krakow, and an ASC alumnus, for his ongoing support. He has generously made himself available to teach students more about Modern IR imaging.
· Industry Visits: A highlight of the week was the opportunity to explore prominent chemical companies at the Bitterfeld-Wolfen Chemical Park. Visits to Heraeus Quarzglas, ICL, FEW Chemicals, Bitterfeld’s Joint Water Treatment Plant or Miltitz Aromatics provided invaluable insights into industry practices and trends.
· Alumni Presentations: Alumni, the living testament to the impact of our programme, shared their post-ASC journey with current students. Elena Giaretta, Veronica Di Battista, and Minela Barp inspired us with their experiences, underscoring the enduring value of the ASC community.
· Poster Sessions: Master 2 students showcased their thesis subjects and research progress through engaging poster sessions, fostering exchange and collaboration among peers.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the winter school organization team at Leipzig University for their meticulous planning and execution, ensuring a seamless experience for all participants.
