Bologna is the historic capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy. This lively and colourful city has three knicknames: « la Grassa » (the fat one) for its rich food legacy, « la Dotta » (the learned one) for the city university founded in 1088 and « la Rossa » (the red one) for its terracotta medieval buildings and roof tiles. But Bologna is not a « museum town ». Its large student population makes it a living, vibrant city and a great place to live and study.
